The Telluride Balloon Festival isn't Telluride's largest festival by any means, but it certainly is one of the most whimsical and fun! Every June, summer is kicked off by these colorful balloons floating around the box canyon and offering a new perspective of Telluride's beautiful scenery.
Spectators can enjoy the balloons' launching from Town Park en masse at sunrise and floating out of town on both Saturday and Sunday (weather permitting). One of our favorite events is the "Glow Up" when the balloons line Main Street at night and turn on their burners, letting their balloons glow with the light. The balloon pilots also offer educational opportunities at the local intermediate school, and a balloon photography workshop.
Make sure you book your lodging so you arrive the night before. You won't want to miss the sunrise launch!
