Live Music is a staple in our mountain town. The roar of funk, bluegrass, rock, and jazz bounce off the valley walls on a regular occurrence. Because of this, you can be sure to find live music on your next vacation if you know where to look! Of the many venues, the ones most popular in the winter months include Club Red, The Sheridan Opera House, and The Liberty. Below, find my local’s favorite list of each venue’s upcoming shows with links to their music at the bottom!
Club Red serves as the largest indoor concert setting in Telluride with several popular bands returning each season. It is easily accessed in the heart of Mountain Village with upcoming shows posted around the resort and near the stairs to the Gondola. Be ready to get down and sway to the funk February 16 or 17 with one of Telluride’s favorites, Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe. Denson mixes classical jazz tunes with modern funk to keep the dance floor moving all night long. And the great music continues with a passionate collaboration of musical talent by Ander Osborne and Jackie Greene on March 21st. Nothing accompanies a good drink like a catchy guitar strum.
For a more personal, small venue experience, check out a show at one of the oldest buildings in town, The Sheridan Opera House. In just a few days check out a sure to be sold-out, two night show of Papadosio (January 10 and 11th). This band rocks the house with an appealing blend of rock, jazz, and electronic melodies. Then, in February, slow it down to some foot stomping, lyrical jams with Donavon Frankenreiter. A traveling man with stories to tell and passion in his guitar strums, you really can’t go wrong.
A nightly place of gathering, The Liberty offers an eclectic bar with live music, comedy, karaoke, and more depending on the evening. This winter, the music show we are all anticipating is Sticks N’ Thorns (Jon Stickley and Andy Thorn) on February 15th. With their fast string instruments, this band brings the Telluride Bluegrass Festival feel to the small stage. Tap your boots and tip your drink, Bluegrass is back in town.
